Uber, one of the most well-known and widely used rideshare platforms, has launched a new program for riders with service animals.

The new program allows service animal handlers the option to self-identify themselves in the app, as well as to inform drivers that a service animal will be along for the ride.

With this new feature, Uber states that their goal is to “foster clearer communication and greater confidence for both riders and drivers throughout their journey”.
If a rider notifies ahead of time that a service animal will be accompanying them and a driver requests to cancel their trip, the driver will receive an in-app message stating that it is against the law to refuse transport because of a service animal. See below what that message would show:
Uber is also investing in new measures to help create a more seamless reporting process for riders with service animals in case of a cancellation. Uber will contact the rider and work to provide additional support.
