Lots of Area baseball players drafted in MLB

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Plenty of area baseball players have been picked over the last three days in the Major League Draft.

Providence infielder Tyler Callihan was picked 85th overall by the Cincinnati Reds and will have to choose between playing professional baseball or playing college ball at South Carolina.

Trinity Christian had three players taken in the draft, including Florida State University star J.C. Flowers, who was an outfielder and pitcher for the Seminoles and was drafted 134th overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Former Batram Trail player Tanner Murphy, who most recently played for the University of North Florida Ospreys was drafted by the New York Mets in the 21st round, while the Chicago Cubs grabbed Murphy's former teammate, pitcher Brad Depperman as well as Jacksonville University closer Zach Bryant.

Hunter Barco, who was expected to be a first round pick, announced his intentions of attending the University of Florida and was still picked in the 24th round by the Mets.

Wakulla High School alum and Gators quarterback Feleipe Franks was picked by the Red Sox in the 31st round.
