PHILADELPHIA — Seven people - six in an airplane and the seventh on the ground - were killed when a medical transport plane crashed in Philadelphia.

The plane was on its way to Missouri on Friday night when it crashed.

There were four crew members, a pediatric patient and her mother on board the Learjet operated by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, WTXF reported.

The passengers and crew were Mexican citizens:

  • Capt. Alan Alejandro Montoya Perales
  • Co-pilot Josue de Jesus Juarez Jaurez
  • Dr. Raul Meza Arrendondo
  • Paramedic Rodrigo Lopez Padilla
  • Valentina Guzman Murillo, the 11-year-old patient
  • Lizeth Murillo Ozuna, the patient’s mother

The seventh person, who was not on the plane but was in a car near where the plane crashed, has not been identified, WTXF reported.

Valentina had been receiving medical treatment in Philadelphia at Shriners Children’s Hospital, KYW reported.

“It’s extremely hard and extremely difficult, those that were involved directly in her care were very aware that she was going to be traveling home and there had actually been a sendoff for her today,” hospital spokesperson Mel Bower said.

An additional 24 people were hurt in the crash on the ground, four were still hospitalized as of Monday and two were listed as critical, according to Fox News.

Eleven homes were damaged with several people having to stay at a shelter that was set up at a high school nearby. But more people may need help.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating along with the Federal Aviation Administration and local agencies.

The voice recorder was recovered over the weekend, found about eight feet from the surface in the crater the crash caused, WPVI reported.
