COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — A second person is in custody in a hit-and-run crash that killed an 8-year-old in Columbia County.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the original suspect, Julio Cesar Marquez, was at work at the time of the crash and lied to investigators.

His wife, 30-year-old Kenia Gonzalez, was the one driving the SUV that hit Lauren Peterson, who was riding her scooter, authorities said.
The crash happened Friday night on U.S. 90 in Lake City.

“When investigators presented the evidence to Mrs. Gonzalez, she admitted to fabricating the original statement and admitted to driving when the crash occurred,” according to a news release from FHP.
Gonzalez is charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death and making a false police report.
Marquez is now charged with accessory after the fact and knowingly giving false information.
