UPDATE 5:30 pm: Action News Jax has learned that a crash that shut down the Mathews Bridge for hours Sunday morning was deadly.
The Florida Highway Patrol says a 39-year-old woman from Jacksonville was killed in the accident, which happened just before 5 a.m.
The FHP report says she was inside a disabled SUV facing Westbound on the center concrete barrier when it happened.
Another woman was traveling westbound in her car when she hit the SUV.
Update: The bridge is now open.
The westbound lanes of the Mathews Bridge remain closed Sunday morning after a severe traffic accident.

JSO states that the bridge is closed due to a traffic accident with multiple injuries.
It is undefined when the bridge will re-open.
As of 8:33 A.M., it remains closed.
