The Camden County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to an active shooter at the intersection of Kinlaw Road and Harretts Bluff Road, Wednesday afternoon.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed with Action News Jax saying this is also a deputy-involved incident, and they are taking over the investigation.

Officials blocked off the intersection where the shooting happened, blocking off the roadway for hours.

“That’s too close to home,” neighbor Roosevelt Parish said. “And I’ve known these people for a long time.”

Neighbors are disturbed and heartbroken.

“I just came from church, and they were talking about it and we were saddened to hear that,” Sir Dawson said.

The sheriff’s office spokesperson said deputies responded to an active shooter on Kinlaw Road and Harretts Bluff Road just before 4:30 p.m., Wednesday.

Three people were shot and officials said their conditions are unknown at this time.

Witnesses told Action News Jax they saw at least two helicopters land in the Winn Dixie parking lot just a few miles down from Harriett’s Bluff Road.

In a statement, Sheriff Kevin Chaney said, “We understand the concern this incident has caused in our community. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.”

“It’s a sad story,” Parrish said.

Investigators haven’t said if anyone is in custody but said there is no threat to the community at this time.

Action News Jax is still working to learn more about why the shooting happened, and who the suspect and victims are.
