ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The City of St. Augustine is launching a new bikeshare program provided by local business Drifters, Inc. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, in the Plaza de la Constitución in Historic Downtown St. Augustine.
The program provides non-vehicular transportation options across downtown St. Augustine, West King Street, Anastasia Blvd., and St. Augustine Beach. The initiative aims to improve access to the community and expand outdoor recreation opportunities for residents and visitors.
St. Augustine Mayor Nancy Sikes-Kline said the service provides an alternative way to travel through the city. “We are so excited to bring back this healthy and fun mobility program,” Sikes-Kline said. “It’s a way for locals and visitors alike to get around town, not in a car and just enjoy the city… run errands, grab a bite to eat, get out and explore and see the city like you’ve never seen it before.”
The system features a fleet of 90 custom bicycles, consisting of 80 pedal bikes and 10 pedal-assist models. Riders can pick up and return bicycles across more than 170 docking stations throughout the service area. Each bicycle includes a basket, an unlock and lock mechanism, a mobile app and an integrated payment system.
Ian Guthrie, owner and creator of Drifters, Inc., developed the system and joined city officials to announce the launch. “We’ve put years of preparation, work and a lot of heart into this and I’m so excited to see it finally coming to life,” Guthrie said.
Guthrie emphasized that the service was designed to support local business districts. “From the custom bikes to the app, we’ve designed everything to make it safe, easy, dependable, and convenient for locals and visitors to get around, explore the city, and discover the businesses that make this place so special,” Guthrie said. “This program is all about community and promoting local businesses. We’re excited to see that support come full circle: our sponsors helped get this program rolling, and now the program will help support local businesses by getting riders out to enjoy everything our city has to offer.”
Rental options include hourly rates alongside monthly and annual membership subscriptions. Discounts are available for Flagler College students. Interactive station maps, pricing details, and program information are available on the mobile application and website.
