UPDATE: Road back open in Lake City after police investigated suspicious items

LAKE CITY, Fla. — UPDATE 10:40 a.m.: Lake City Police say the suspicious device found Monday morning at Enterprise Rent-A-Car on Gwen Lake Avenue has been determined to be safe.

Officers say an employee discovered the device, described as a piece of wood with a metal pipe attached by zip ties and blue tape, inside a vehicle returned overnight. A nearby daycare was evacuated as a precaution.

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad examined the device and determined there was no threat.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

The Lake City Police Department is asking people to avoid Northwest Gwen Lake Avenue.

Officers announced Monday morning that the road is closed while first responders investigate suspicious items at Enterprise.
