Putnam deputies searching for suspect in child neglect, overdose case | Neighbors react

SATSUMA, Fla. — Action News Jax obtained body camera footage of the dramatic moment a Putnam deputy saved a child from overdosing.

Wednesday, we learned the mom, Ti’Tashua Thomas, turned herself in, but detectives are still on the hunt for the second suspect, Bruce Harris.

When detectives got a search warrant for suspected child neglect from Thomas and Harris, they discovered the home where the baby came from is a “drug house.”

“I can’t even imagine that - it’s such a quiet neighborhood,” neighbor Ron Curdy said.

Neighbors were shocked to learn there was a “drug house” on their street.

“It makes me sad that that’s in our neighborhood, it really is,” Cordy said.

This started last Thursday when deputies responded to calls of an unresponsive baby in Satsuma.

Newly released body camera footage shows Putnam deputy Colt Wade stepping into action to save the one-year-old.

Relying heavily on his CPR training, Wade was eventually able to get a pulse from the limp child. When paramedics arrived, they administered Narcan, and the child is now expected to recover.

After medical testing, investigators confirmed the baby had ingested an opioid.

A search warrant led investigators to find guns, meth, cocaine, and bags of marijuana for sale. The man in the video - Bruce Harris – is now wanted for child neglect along with many other charges.

And the baby’s mom, Thomas, was wanted for child neglect, but she turned herself into the sheriff’s office today.

“I’ve got a 12-year-old girl myself, and oh my god, I couldn’t imagine,” Cordy said.

In a statement, Sheriff H.D. Gator DeLoach said, “Ingesting a pill was probably the best case scenario considering there were loaded guns lying around, a multitude of drugs and residue easily accessible…”

He went on to say if it hadn’t been for the deputy, this could have quickly become a death investigation.

So, the sheriff plans to hold these two responsible and remove the children from “deplorable conditions.”

After Thomas turned herself in, she bonded out of her $100,000 bond about 20 minutes later. But Harris is still on the run.
