JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — A Ponte Vedra Beach man claimed a $1 million prize he won from a Florida Lottery Scratch-Off.

Walter Sheard purchased the winning 500X THE CASH Scratch-Off at Publix, 670 Marsh Landing Parkway, Jacksonville Beach, the Florida Lottery said in a news release.

Sheard chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000, the Lottery said.

Publix will get a $2,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The $50 500X THE CASH Scratch-Off game features a top prize of $25 million. With more than $1.66 billion in cash prizes, the game’s overall odds of winning are 1-in-4.23, the Lottery said.

Since their inception, the Lottery said its Scratch-Off games have awarded more than $64.3 billion in prizes, created 2,230 millionaires, and generated more than $19.50 billion for the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF).
