Police investigating double shooting-turned-carjacking at Brentwood apartment

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is searching for the man they say broke into an apartment in the Brentwood area, shot two men in the face, and drove off in one of their cars.

Investigators tell Action News Jax it happened right before 7 a.m. at the Capri Villa Apartments on North Main Street. Action News Jax’s Finn Carlin spoke with the woman who says heard the two shots fired right across from her apartment.

“We’ve had a couple minor things happen here, but nothing this crazy,” said Robin Johnson, who lives at the apartments and claims to have been the one who called 911.

Johnson says after hearing the shots, she went outside and heard one of her neighbors calling for help. She says she ran over to the apartment where it was coming from and found a man on the ground who police say had been shot in the head. Johnson says she found another man right inside, standing in the middle of a bedroom doorway after being shot in the face.

“Well, it’s crazy because me and my sister were just talking yesterday, I told her I had a weird feeling something bad was going to happen out here,” Johnson said.

Johnson called her sister, Renee, right around the time she said she called the police. Renee says she walked outside her apartment to find police putting crime scene tape up around most of the small apartment complex.

“I had a dream, a nightmare, not too long ago about someone getting shot, that I was going to get shot. Yeah, it was just shocking. It hits too close to home,” Renee Johnson said.

Police say the car the shooter drove off in is a silver Buick Lacrosse. The shooter, nor the men he shot, have yet been identified.

The men hurt in the shooting are in the hospital in critical condition. Their neighbors are hoping both of them will make it home.

“I pray they both make it. I do. I pray they catch the person who did this, and I pray they both make it, I do because it’s sad,” said Renee Johnson.

No arrests have yet been made in the shooting. If you know anything about the shooting, you’re asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office or CrimeStoppers.
