JSO said it responded to the scene around 2 P.M., where officers found a man in his late 30s with one gunshot wound to the chest.
Employees from a coffee shop next door told Action News Jax that they heard multiple gunshots while in the parking lot just before police arrived.
The man was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital by fire rescue, but did not survive.
JSO said Wednesday evening that its investigation revealed the man was there for a meeting of some kind.
Three people of interest were detained for interviews, but it’s unclear if any of them were the shooter. JSO said it was still looking for one vehicle of interest, a black four-door car that may be a Nissan. The car left the parking lot and drove southbound on Southside Boulevard.
Anyone with information on the shooting or suspects involved is asked to reach out to JSO or Crime Stoppers.
