Motorcyclist strikes concrete pole, dies in Jacksonville crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is dead after crashing the motorcycle he was riding early Friday in the 1400 block of Kings Avenue in Jacksonville’s San Marco area. Police say speed may have been a factor.

The man, whose identity was not released, was riding southbound on Kings Avenue when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road, left the roadway, and struck a concrete pole, a Jacksonville police news release states. He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

2025 Jacksonville motorcycle crashes

Friday’s wreck was the seventh motorcycle fatality in Jacksonville this year. Here’s a look at some of the others:

Feb. 5: A motorcyclist died and two others were injured after a chaotic scene on Interstate 295 North at the 103rd Street exit. Florida Highway Patrol said a man was driving a stolen pickup truck southbound - the wrong way - on the interstate at about 4:38 p.m. when he struck a motorcyclist throwing the rider to the ground. The motorcyclist, a 66-year-old Jacksonville man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jan. 26: The crash occurred on Interstate 295 at Old St. Augustine Road. Two motorcyclists were riding southbound on I 295 in the center lane. The riders struck each other in a “sideswipe type collision” causing both riders to loose control, a Florida Highway Patrol news release states.

One of the riders, a 41-year-old Jacksonville man, was taken to the hospital where he died. The other, a 32-year-old Jacksonville man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jan. 26: A motorcyclist was riding north on Roosevelt Boulevard when a black VW Jetta pulled out from a side street into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcycle crashed into the driver’s side of the Jetta. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department rushed the motorcyclist to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Jan. 19: A Jacksonville man was killed riding a motorcycle in Avondale. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 47-year-old was speeding while heading northbound on U.S. 17 around 6:30 p.m. Another driver was riding in the opposite direction when she attempted to make a left turn onto Rensselaer Avenue. During the turn, the sedan crashed into the motorcyclist before flipping in the roadway. FHP says the motorcyclist was taken to the hospital where he later died.
