Man killed in shooting in Jacksonville’s Woodstock neighborhood

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police have little details about what lead to a man’s shooting death Sunday night. Officers were called to the 3400 block of Columbus Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. in reference to gunfire.

Officers arrived on the scene to find a man in his 30s with a gunshot wound to his head, a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office news release states. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

“At this time, the circumstances that led to the victim’s death are unknown,” the news release states. “The only suspect information is a possible dark-colored vehicle seen leaving the area around the time of the reported gunfire.”

No arrests were made.

Man shot in neck in separate Phoenix area incident

About two hours later, JSO was called to the Phoenix area for another shooting. A man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after he was shot in the neck outside of his home. Jacksonville police were called to the 2000 block of Evergreen Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. in reference to a person shot.

“The initial investigation revealed the victim was outside of his residence when he was approached by an unknown individual,” a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office news release states. “The victim and suspect were involved in a verbal altercation.”

During the argument the shooter pulled out a gun and fired a round striking the victim once in the neck, the news release states. “The injury the victim sustained is considered non life threatening at this time,” the news release states.

No arrests were made.
