Man killed at Middleburg construction site after being ‘crushed’ between 2 vehicles: FHP

MIDDLEBURG, Fla. — Action News Jax is working to learn more about a deadly construction accident in Middleburg.

Florida Highway Patrol said a man was crushed between two vehicles on a job site Tuesday.

It happened on Trefoil Trail near Black Creek just after 9:30 a.m., FHP said in a news release.

A 45-year-old man from Jacksonville was driving a dump truck and parked after “processing his load of material,” FHP said.

He was standing at the back of the dump truck when a bulldozer being driven by a 44-year-old woman from Middleburg “was backing up and did not see the parked dump truck,” FHP said.

As Action News Jax looked for more answers about how the accident occurred, we talked to neighbors in the area.

Mystique Matson said she was not surprised an accident happened at the site.

“There’s been a lot of issues with all of the trucks coming out, they’re not very responsible,” said Matson.

She said the work being done at that site has raised safety concerns within their community.

“They speed down the road and they drop debris everywhere,” said Matson. “It’s not safe, not to mention all the dust that is kicking up and throwing up on everyone’s houses and cars.”

When Action News Jax reached out to FHP Friday, it did not have any updates to provide on the investigation into Tuesday’s accident, however, it did confirm that OSHA is also investigating.
