JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man died Thursday after his car rear-ended a Jacksonville Transportation Authority bus, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

The crash happened around 11:12 a.m. in the 3500 block of University Boulevard North, a few blocks south of Fort Caroline Road.

The bus was unloading passengers at a bus stop in the outside lane, JSO Sgt. Hungerford said.

A four-door Ford, driven by a man in his 50s, was going southbound on University Boulevard North in the outside lane when it ran into the back of the JTA bus, Hungerford said.

JSO said the man was taken to the hospital by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, and he died shortly after he arrived there.

There were seven people on the bus at the time of the crash and one had a minor injury, police said.

JSO said this is the 149th traffic fatality in Duval County in 2024.
