Man arrested after 8-year-old girl killed in hit-and-run

FHP hit-and-run suspect Julio Cesar Marquez, accused of a hit-and-run in Columbia County Friday night

LAKE CITY, Fla. — A man was arrested by law enforcement Saturday morning after police say he hit and killed a child with his car and didn’t stop to help.

This happened around 6:45 P.M. Friday night in Columbia County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 38-year-old Miami man was heading east on US 90 when he hit an 8-year-old Lake City girl on a bike.

The suspect, Julio Cesar Marquez, was booked into the Columbia County jail system after 5 a.m. Saturday.

According to the report, Marquez was unhurt and kept driving.

The girl was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Marquez is now being held in Columbia County jail without bond.
