Jacksonville man arrested in deadly Arlington hit-and-run that killed 13-year-old girl

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Andre Myers on Thursday, who police said is being charged with leaving the scene of the deadly hit-and-run crash late Tuesday night.

Action News Jax told you last night that when family and loved ones of the 13-year-old girl killed in the crash identified her as Genesis Webber, a 7th-grade student at Southside Middle School.

“The loss of any life is tragic, but the loss of an innocent young life makes this case much more difficult,” a JSO news release state.

We got a copy of the arrest report for Andre Myers through JSO. The report says a man walking home from work on Arlington Road North on Tuesday night saw the fence along the road mangled from the hit-and-run, before seeing Genesis’ body right off the shoulder of the road.

Police, in the report, said a Dodge emblem and other parts belonging to a Dodge Ram truck were found scattered around the crash site. Officers then found a piece of mail on the shoulder of the road addressed to Myers, before discovering he was the owner of a Dodge Ram.

Action News Jax looked through Duval County court records and found that Myers had been arrested for aggravated assault in June. In the arrest report for the Arlington hit-and-run, JSO said Myers had been out of jail on bond and wearing an ankle monitor.

The report says at around 9:15 last night, police got a list of locations Myers would frequently visit based on the activity of his ankle monitor. Less than two hours later, the report says officers found him sleeping in his truck at the BooMoo storage facility on North Main Street.

Myers’ first court appearance happened on Thursday afternoon. We’re still working to learn when he will next appear before a Duval County judge, but the family of Genesis Webber tells Action News Jax they’re thankful an arrest was made so soon.

“I want justice for Genesis, that’s it. I want justice for Genesis,” said Zayonna Williams, a family friend who spoke with us after placing balloons, candles and stuffed animals at the crash site.

Webber’s family has started a fundraiser to help pay for the cost of her funeral services. Anyone wishing to donate can do so at the link here.

Myers is in Duval County jail on no bond.
