JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE: The Main Street Bridge has reopened after being closed Tuesday morning after it was hit by a boat. Maritime traffic remains restricted until repairs are completed, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
“The bridge is locked in the down position to allow safe use by motorists,” an FDOT news release states. “Due to the specialized nature of the components, it could take several days to complete the repairs.”

The Main Street Bridge was closed early Tuesday after being struck by a boat. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said in a news release at 2:36 a.m. that the bridge would be closed for “at least six hours due to a boat striking the bridge.”
The news release did not state the extent of the damage.
