ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla — UPDATE 2:30 P.M.: Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) says a 63-year-old Ponte Vedra woman was killed in a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Pine Island/Stratton Road.
According to FHP, the 63-year-old woman was turning left from Pine Island Road to go South on U.S. 1. As she turned, an SUV heading North on U.S. 1 hit the driver’s side of her sedan. After the initial crash, the woman’s sedan then hit a trailer that was being pulled by a truck waiting in the median.
FHP says the crash happened at around 8:00am on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. The woman’s family has been notified.
No names have been formally released at this time. The driver of the SUV, a 19-year-old man from St. Augustine, suffered minor injuries. The truck driver, a 35-year-old man from Jacksonville, was not hurt.
Emergency responders say all of those involved were wearing seat belts.

At least one person is in critical condition after a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Pine Island/Stratton Road. St. Johns County Fire Rescue says the person had to be rescued from their vehicle before heading to a local hospital.
Florida Highway Patrol, St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, and multiple rescue vehicles are at the scene. At this time it is not known in which direction the cars were traveling.
One car came to rest diagonally to the roadway in the southbound Lane of U.S. 1. Another vehicle came to a stop closer to the intersection of Stratton Road.
