In a post on social media, JHS states that the scam spoofs the official phone number of the organization, where scammers pose as JHS staff telling them that their lost pet is at the facility and that they have to send them money to cover care expenses.

JHS states they would never call an owner to demand payment for lost pet care or any type of medical care.

JHS warns the community about the alerts, urging any instances of calls to be sent to them at info@jaxhumane.org or to call 904-725-8766, as well as to contact local authorities.
