JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — “It ain’t pretty, but it’s gritty,” were the words used by Liam Coen to describe the Jacksonville Jaguars 19-17 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. And that it was.
Evidently, eight seconds is all the Jaguars needed to put themselves into field goal range thanks to an excellent return by Ameer Abdullah. With Cam Little’s leg, that was all she wrote.
Let’s look at how the Jaguars were able to squeak out another international win over the Eagles.

First, let’s start with the Jaguars’ dominant run defense that forced yet another offense to play entirely one-dimensionally. Jaguars’ DL DaVon Hamilton and company allowed just 22 yards on 18 carries, one week after allowing 23 yards on 15 carries.
It marked the fewest rushing yards in a single game for the Eagles since 2015. This season, the Jaguars are allowing just 63.8 yards per game, best in the NFL for the second straight season, and a mere 2.9 yards per attempt.
On the offensive side of things, Brenton Strange had another big game, hauling in seven balls for 68 yards. He now has 14 receptions for 163 yards over the last two weeks. Parker Washington snagged the go-ahead touchdown, ending the day with 124 yards and two scores himself.
On the ground, the Jaguars failed to get much of a push, but Bhayshul Tuten managed to still grind for 72 yards. Of those 72 rushing yards, 73 came after contact, an indictment on the offensive line and a sign of just how good Tuten is at creating yards for himself.

For the second straight week, penalties killed the Jaguars. The Jags have now posted back-to-back weeks with 13+ penalties and 100+ penalty yards. In fact, they are the first team since the 2011 Seahawks to win consecutive games with 13+ penalties in each.
There’s a lot to clean up, especially before this upcoming divisional battle against the Houston Texans; however, at the end of the day, a win is a win. It ain’t pretty, but it’s gritty. Jacksonville keeps finding ways.
