GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — The Glynn County Board of Commissioners and the City of Brunswick simultaneously issued a State of Emergency declaration Thursday evening for Hurricane Helene. A comparable declaration was issued by the City of Brunswick and signed by the Mayor.
By issuing these declarations, it allows Glynn County and the City of Brunswick to bolster preparedness measures and streamline potential reimbursements from state and federal authorities in response to Hurricane Helene.

As for the progress of Hurricane Helene: the storm continues to intensify and accelerate moving north-northeast and is expected to make landfall as a strong category 4 hurricane with dangerous conditions developing overnight in our area.
Impacts for Glynn County:
- Wind: Expect sustained winds between 58 to 73 mph, with gusts up to hurricane strength, especially near coastal areas and high-profile structures like the Port of Brunswick.
- Storm Surge: Water levels could reach 3 to 4 feet above ground level in flood-prone areas, particularly around coastal Georgia.
- Flooding: Flash flooding potential remains high, particularly near the St. Johns River and low-lying areas.
- Tornado Risk: Tornadoes are possible from midnight through Friday morning, particularly along the coast.
- Timing: The most likely time of arrival of tropical storm-force winds may begin around 8PM, with winds persisting for 12 to 14 hours.

As wind and rain increase, citizens are asked to avoid travel and stay off of roads.
Citizens who see storm damage may report it to County or City Public Works by calling 912-554-7111. Works crews from Glynn County Public Works and Brunswick Public Works will be working overnight to clear debris.
