FHP says driver saw fire start in bed of pickup truck driving on Interstate 295 overpass

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In a recent release issued by the Florida Highway Patrol, a pickup truck, also captured on DOT cameras, caught fire while traveling west on JT Butler Boulevard at Interstate 295. Action News Jax first brought you this breaking story at around 5:15 p.m.

The report says that the driver observed the fire coming from the bed of his truck and pulled over to the right shoulder. After a very short time the truck was fully engulfed.

FHP said that “fiery debris fell onto northbound Interstate 295 underneath JT Butler Boulevard.” There were no injuries as a result of the truck fire. However, the roadway on westbound JT Butler Boulevard and northbound I295 was blocked. Traffic was able to be diverted until the scene could be secured.

All roadways are now open as of Thursday evening.

DOT will be accessing for possible damage to the overpass.
