Local mother of daughter killed in wrong-way crash speaks out

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two families are without their loved ones after they were killed in a wrong way crash overnight Friday. Action New Jax has learned through family members that one of the people in that crash was 29-year-old Dealvin Mapp.

It happened around midnight when police say a white pickup truck was driving the wrong direction on Wilson Boulevard and crashed into a gray sedan. It killed both the driver and passenger in the car.

“After he (police) told me my baby was gone, I no longer heard anything else he said,” Sibrina Riggins said.

Mapp’s mother, Sibrina Riggins tells Action News Jax her daughter was in the car with her friend when the crash happened, she said hearing about it was devastating. She described Mapp as someone who was full of life.

“Everything flashes through your mind,” she said. “Like I was in somebody else’s dream and this was a total nightmare.”

The crash happened near the intersection of Wilson Boulevard and Interstate-295. Police said the driver of the pickup truck only had minor injuries and suspect alcohol played a role in the crash.

“They’re still investigating but if he was, then I hope this opens his eyes,” Riggins said. “If he was intoxicated — that he took two beautiful young ladies’ lives.”

Riggins sent out a message for anybody who drives under the influence.

“When you drink and drive you don’t only put your own life at risk, but you put other people’s life at risk,” she said.

Action News Jax reached out to the family members of the second victim, but they told us they weren’t ready to speak on camera yet. Police have also not yet identified the driver of the truck.
