JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — Jacksonville Beach Elementary School was on a Code Yellow lockdown due to a threat on Friday, one day after students and staff had to be evacuated from the school due to a bomb threat.

The school received “another threatening telephone message,” Principal Cameron Mattingly said Friday in a message to JBES families.

Students and staff were evacuated on Thursday from the campus due to a bomb threat.

Mattingly said in the Friday message “multiple police agencies are investigating the threats.”

A Code Yellow lockdown means students and staff are “limited to essential movement only.” Parents were allowed to come pick up their children, “because of the circumstances and in light of yesterday’s events,” Mattingly said.

Communication

“Hello Jacksonville Beach Elementary School families, this is Principal Mattingly calling.

“First, I want to assure you that all students and staff are safe. Again, all students and staff are safe. However, we do have a police presence on campus again because we have received another threatening telephone message. Therefore, we are currently operating under a code yellow status. Because of the circumstances and in light of yesterday’s events, we are allowing approved individuals to check children out of school if you desire to do so. It is not required, but if you would like to pick up your student early, you may come to the school and follow normal check out procedures. Despite the circumstances, instruction is occurring in our classrooms, so if you want to leave your child at school, that’s perfectly fine. They will return home as they normally would at the end of the day. For your awareness, multiple police agencies are investigating the threats we have received. I greatly appreciate the support they are giving us, and I appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work through these events as a school community. Thanks, and again, if you would like to pick up your child early, you are welcome to do so. Good bye.”
