JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man has died after police said he was shot while riding as a passenger in a car on Atlantic Boulevard on Monday afternoon.
Surveillance video obtained by Action News Jax shows a gray Dodge crashing into the Rent A Wheel on Atlantic Boulevard near Southside Boulevard.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said about 12 shots were fired at the gray Dodge, possibly from a rifle and possibly from a black car.
As of just after 6:30 p.m., the Rent-A-Wheel parking lot was still blocked off by crime scene tape. There were also two JSO crime scene unit vans on scene and also at least six evidence markers on Atlantic Boulevard, blocking two lanes of traffic.
The surveillance video shows the gray car slowly turning into the Rent-A-Wheel parking lot. A black car starts slowing down and then the gray car then crashes into the front of the business.
A woman told Action News Jax she was driving behind the black car on Atlantic Boulevard. She said the car started slowing down in front of her and then she heard shots fired.
JSO said it does not have any suspect information at this time other than that the suspect was possibly traveling in the black car that drove away.
