JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Delta flight 1576 made an emergency landing Monday afternoon at Cecil Airport on Jacksonville’s Westside.
According to a spokesperson with the Jacksonville Aviation Authority, the flight was bound for Orlando from Atlanta. It landed safely, and there were no reports of injuries.
Delta told Action News Jax that smoke in the cabin prompted the emergency landing. There’s no indication there was an actual fire on board.
There were more than 200 passengers, two pilots, and four flight attendants on board.

Passenger photos show oxygen masks deployed in the cabin during the descent:
“Everybody was calm. The pilots were calm, the flight attendants were calm. We just sort of landed here pretty smooth,” said one passenger, David Deeks.
Another passenger, Mary Anne Harris, recalled waking up to the sound of alarms.
“We heard over the intercom to get your oxygen mask on. The masks were down and not easy to grab, but we got it done.”
The airline released this statement:
“We apologize to our customers for the experience. Safety comes before everything else at Delta and our teams will now focus on taking care of our customers and getting them to their destinations.”
All passengers were safely evacuated and taken to a ground facility at Cecil Airport. Delta says team members from Jacksonville International Airport were dispatched to assist with baggage retrieval and help customers continue their trip to Orlando via ground transportation.
