Hastings, Fla. — Those who know Maslin Mooney will tell you he’s just like any other teen.
“He likes video games and he likes to hang out and play with his phone. And he comes here, and we get to give him the word of God,” said Ross Warrell, the youth director at First Baptist Church of Hastings.
Now, Mooney has a long road to recovery ahead.

Warrell said, “We really don’t know the extent of his injuries.”
That’s why Warrell and the church started a fundraiser to help Mooney’s family. He said, “The circumstances are gonna require help. Medical bills aren’t getting any cheaper. Food’s not getting any cheaper. They’re gonna have to travel from Flagler Estates where they live up to Wolfson’s, that’s a long drive. They are having some help along the way, but anything that can be given is a blessing.”
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office has not yet identified the suspect or announced an arrest, stating this is still an ongoing investigation.
