A family member of the woman called 911 and said that the woman was threatening “suicide by law enforcement,” Cook said.
Cook said that when two deputies arrived and got out of their vehicles, the woman approached with a gun, and they shot her.
“Because of the way she was holding the gun and walking toward the deputies, they really had no other option,” Cook said.

Afterward, the deputies provided first aid to the woman, Cook said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be investigating the shooting, Cook said.
Cook encouraged people who may be having suicidal thoughts to reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
“We don’t want any member of our community taking their own life and there’s help available. Just strongly encourage anyone who’s struggling to reach out for help,” Cook said.
