On Monday, the city gave an update on those projects, including Riverfront Plaza.

Construction is moving along for that development.

Phase 1 of the project is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Once the first phase of the project is completed, there will be an elevated destination playground on top of a park pavilion building. There will also be a large flexible event lawn, as well as a new bulkhead, riverwalk, and more.

And Riverfront Plaza is one of a number of projects coming to life.

“We will have probably dozens of cranes in the air in the matter of a year,” said Jimmy Peluso, councilman for District 7. “It’s going to be incredible.”

Through the city’s new campaign called “I Dig Jax,” you can check to see what other projects are underway. So far, the website lists 10 projects. Some of those include phase 1 of the RiversEdge Parks & Boardwalk, Shipyards West, and Metropolitan Park.

Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan said this year they expect to complete design work on both the new Shipyards West Park and the re-design of Metropolitan Park.

“So, we are making real progress toward a vibrant and thriving downtown, it’s evident in these and many other projects that are underway or ones that are going to be starting very soon,” said Mayor Deegan.
