By the numbers: What Americans wanted most for Christmas

I wanted a hippopotamus for Christmas, but did anyone else?

Data company Statista conducted a national survey to determine what U.S. adults would have personally liked to receive most this Christmas.

The most coveted gift was money. 45% of women and 34% of men said they would be happy to receive cold hard cash.

Clothing and shoes were the second most sought-after present. 37% of women and 32% of men put this on their lists.

In third place for women and men were vouchers/gift cards with 34% and 27% respectively.

Here’s what else women wanted:

  • Cosmetics, perfume, body care: 27%
  • Smartphones, tablets, accessories: 25%
  • Food, drinks: 24%
  • Jewelry and watches: 24%
  • Books, eBooks: 18%

And we can’t forget the men:

  • Food, drinks: 24%
  • Smartphones, tablets, accessories: 20%
  • Computer, computer accessories: 19%
  • Jewelry and watches: 18%
  • Consumer electronics: 16%
