Brunswick Police Chief Kevin Jones retires

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — Brunswick Police Chief Kevin Jones retired from the force Thursday after serving in the role for nearly 10 years.

Jones was sworn in as Chief on March 12th, 2015, but his service began many years before. He began his career with the department as a patrol officer back in 1995.

The city says Jones submitted his retirement plans in October 2024, and has since worked to help the department have a smooth transition.

Assistant Chief Angela Smith, a 20-year veteran of the Brunswick Police Department, will be the Interim Chief of Police beginning Friday, February 1st. She has been the Assistant Chief since 2022.

Chief Jones received the “Act of Heroism” award from the Georgia Chiefs of Police Association in 2002 and has received two lifesaving awards.

Citing an interest in history, Chief Jones has also been instrumental in preserving departmental artifacts and ensuring that the final resting places of the department’s fallen officers are cared for and remembered by the community.

Based on photos posted from his retirement party, it looks like the former chief will be doing some fishing in his newfound retirement.
