JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Groundhog Day Dunk is back for another year at Naval Station Mayport. For the 3rd annual event, the station’s own Punxsutawney Phil – Mayport Mitch – will be out and about.
Monday, he’ll be taking a dip into the winter ocean at Sunrise along with anyone else who wants to participate.

The event is happening at 7 a.m. at the Sea Otter Pavilion, located next to the Navy Lodge and the Pinz Bowling Center.
It may be a Florida polar plunge, but the water will still be very cold.

After the swim, MWR Mayport will help everyone warm up with free coffee, hot cocoa, and Dunkin Donuts.
The event is free and open to anyone with base access.
