Autistic Jacksonville boy found safe after Florida Missing Child Alert issued

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a missing 14-year-old boy was found safe Tuesday afternoon.

This comes after a Florida Missing Child Alert was issued by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for Leland “Mikey” Scales.

Leland is 5′4″, 150 pounds with blue eyes and blond hair. Before he disappeared, he was last seen wearing a black Spider-Man T-shirt and black basketball shorts.

When JSO first alerted the public that Leland was missing, police said he was last seen around 11 p.m. Monday in the 7100 block of Natal Avenue.

“It is unclear when he left the residence, but he was seen on foot between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. in the 6900 block of West Beaver Street, heading east while carrying an orange and black backpack,” the news release states.

On Tuesday afternoon, JSO shared a photo of Leland riding a dark-colored bicycle on 103rd Street near Jammes Road.

He was also wearing a baseball cap while he was riding the bike.

A Florida Missing Child Alert is issued “to quickly disseminate information when a child is missing and believed to be in life-threatening danger, but there is no indication that the child has been abducted,” according to FDLE’s website.
