Jacksonville leaders reveal survey results identifying what Northeast Florida Veterans need the most

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — Jacksonville leaders just revealed the results about what northeast Florida veterans need most.

According to the survey’s results, what vets in northeast Florida say they need the most is help getting dental, vision and healthcare plans plus VA claims.

“To be honest I think it’s difficult for anybody to get without resources to get those things. I think veterans’ needs are exacerbated by the fact that they are not as connected,” says Professor of Sociology at UNF Jefferey Will.

To address these needs, organizations like Endeavor that assist vulnerable veteran populations want to find out if Jax needs a wellness center.

“One of the avenues that were looking at is expanding the look at how veterans and their family members get care and that look includes more of a wellness approach,” says Dr. Jill Palmer Chief of Behavioral Heath for Endeavors.

1,457 people in Northeast Florida took the veteran needs assessment survey and 1,174 were vets. The remainder were family members, active-duty service members and caregivers.

The survey is just a launch pad and a sample size to identify where vets need help and how they can access it. One critic today noted that many vets may not have done the survey because it was only accessible online.
