Grandson allegedly kills grandmother, climbs on top of Jacksonville fire trucks and cuts self

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Cell phone video sent to Action News Jax shows the bizarre moments after a deadly stabbing on New Kings Road.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said officers found the suspect standing on the front bumper of a JFRD fire truck cutting himself. Police said he was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

New Kings Road was shut down for several hours early Monday morning for the investigation and the house was still taped off for hours after.

A family member told Action News Jax that the victim was 82-year-old Juanita Cox and the suspect is her grandson, James Cox IV.

The Family said Cox occasionally lived with his grandmother off and on, but was not currently living at the house and broke in.

Action News Jax dug through his criminal records and found at least one charge in which he listed the home on New Kings Road as his address. There was a total of at least five related drug charges, including selling marijuana and cocaine.

A family member said Cox is still in the hospital and on suicide watch. Police responded to the scene around 5:30 a.m. after receiving several 911 calls.
