JFRD: Foul play suspected after clothes found stuffed in oven of burning New Town apartment

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department suspects foul play after it located clothes in the oven of a burning apartment Friday morning.

According to a tweet by JFRD, fire fighters responded to Morgan Street for a burning, two story apartment complex. Once the fire was out, they located clothes in the oven and proof that the oven was on.

As a result, JFRD requested the fire marshal to investigate the matter. The apartment is deemed a total loss.

A resident of the complex told Action News Jax that he believes his neighbor started the fire on purpose and claims this specific neighbor tried to stab him Thursday. However, nothing in this statement is confirmed, and the fire marshal will determine the cause of the fire and if criminal charges will be filed.

Action News Jax will continue to follow the story and update you as events unfold.
