‘It was not about wins and losses’: Jaguars Owner Shad Khan tells USA TODAY about Urban Meyer firing

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jaguars Owner Shad Khan recently sat down and spoke with USA TODAY Sports about the firing of former Head Coach Urban Meyer.

“It was not about wins and losses,” he told them.

Urban Meyer was fired back in December 2021 after just 13 games with the Jaguars, only two of which were wins.

Before he was let go, Meyer had a tumultuous history on and off the field.

In September 2021, Meyer was at the center of a viral video that showed him dancing close to a woman who was not his wife.

Then, hours before he was fired, Meyer was accused of kicking ex-Jaguars kicker Josh Lambo.

Shad Khan said, “When you lose the respect, the trust and an issue of truthfulness, how can you work with someone like that?” according to USA TODAY.

“I think when you know someone is not truthful, how can you be around someone, OK? We had Doug Marrone here four years. We had Gus Bradley here four years. I have nothing but the utmost respect and friendship with them. That’s why they got the time, because it wasn’t a matter about respect or truth. It was a matter of wins and losses over four years. This is much bigger than that.”
