Camden County Board of Commissioners to Reduce Millage Rate for 2022

CAMDEN COUNTY, GA — The Camden County Board of Commissioners today announces its intention to reduce the county-wide General Fund millage rate for a second consecutive year.

The proposed millage rate for 2022 is 14.201 mills, a full rollback reduction from the current rate of 15.562. This rollback rate is a 1.361 mills reduction or 8.7% less than the current rate. The Unincorporated Tax District will also take the full rollback reducing the millage rate from 1.35 to 1.275. Adoption of the 2022 millage rates is tentatively scheduled for October 4, 2022.

As a result of this reduction, property owners whose values stayed the same from 2021 to 2022 or have homestead exemption freeze will see a reduced bill for the County portion of their property taxes. When considering a 14.201 operating millage rate, the annual tax bill for a home with a value of $200,000 with homestead exemption would be lowered by $104.00.Property tax bills will be mailed to all property owners later this year.

“Despite the staggering inflation pressure, the Board of Commissioners was still able to fully rollback the millage rate due to Camden County’s strong financial position,” said County Administrator Steve Howard. “The County has $0 general fund debt, $0 unfunded pension liabilities, and appropriate reserves.”
